Nestled between the old charm of Charleston and the excitement of Myrtle Beach, Georgetown is the third oldest city in South Carolina, founded in 1729.
The spectacular tract called Craven's Grant is also rich in history and heritage. In 1663, King Charles II granted eight charters of land. One of the eight "lords proprietors" was Lord Craven, who was granted this impressive piece of history on Winyah Bay.
Georgetown remains distinctive with hunting preserves, wildlife sanctuaries, and stately plantations. There are still to this day many plantations that remain intact and remind us of the charm of yesteryear. The rice fields are very beautiful and a historic part of Georgetown. Once called "the gold mines of the state" where rivers met the sea. The rice fields seem to have been perfectly placed for production.
